PRAYER UPDATE & NEWS BRIEFS 7/29/10

PRAYER UPDATE

Family friends of Allison Yankey need our prayers for a radical miracle of restoration and peace amidst a difficult situation.

Ed Washler celebrates that his son Rev. Zach Washler has received a new appointment from St Matthews UMC in Frankfort to Shiloh UMC in Kokomo. Zach grew up in this church and this congregation supported him in his ministry journey. Ed asks for prayers for Zach and his family as they move. Joseph Martin in concert! On Friday evening August 13 at 7:00pm, Joseph Martin will be presenting a concert of sacred piano music at the Sweetwater Sound auditorium. This multi-talented composer/arranger is simply fabulous on the piano. We are very lucky to have the opportunity to experience his talents first-hand. I can assure you that you will not regret taking time to attend this concert. The price is right too. $5.00 is all you need to gain admittance. Please feel free to contact me (John McLaughlin) at 925-9238 if you are interested in tickets. Leave a message if I’m not there and I will call you right back.

The First United Methodist School of Early Learning will host the Daisy 5K Walk/Run at Rieke Park on Saturday, Sept. 18, to raise funds in response to our school’s continuing growth. The race will be held in memory of Daisy Morris who passed away Jan. 12 at only 20 days old.  She was the daughter of Matt and Addie (Post) Morris. The school’s enrollment has increased by 117 percent (72 to over 150 students) in just four years, and we believe expansion is necessary.  We plan to open more classes, purchase new equipment, create new learning opportunities and offer additional scholarships to give other children the chance that Daisy will never have. We hope that you can participate by competing in the race or volunteering on the day of the event.  For more information, please contact Kelly Oswalt by phone (925-2570) or email (koswalt@auburnfirstunited.com) Registration forms may be found at the preschool’s blog site:  http://auburnfirstunited.com/earlylearning_blog/

IMAGINE YOURSELF DEBT FREE!!  The well-known Dave Ramsey classes (better known as “Financial Peace University”) will begin at our church Thursday, August 19th at 6:30 PM.  David and Lindsay Winslow Brown will be teaching this series.   Plan to come to an Inquiry Potluck in Fellowship Hall Wednesday, August 4 at 6:00 PM. Bring a dish to share and your own table service.  Drinks will be furnished.  There is also a presentation at 9:40am today in the Fellowship Hall. A humorous and educational 25 minute video featuring Dave Ramsey himself in his own inimitable style will be shown and questions will be answered.  You are not obligated to anything by attending. See Dale Williams with questions. See letter below from Dale.

Dear Friend -

As you know First United Methodist Church is bringing Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace University” to our church.  Attached to this e-mail you will find a reproducible advertisement.

First – I would like to suggest to you that perhaps you would want to give serious consideration to enlisting in this very timely 13 week series of classes.  You can learn how to handle money the way God wants us to, make real progress in getting rid of debt (the average family in this experience pays off $ 5,300 of debt as a result of the course), and come to the point eventually where you can live like no one else and give like no one else.

Secondly – I want to invite you to print out a sheet with these two inserts on it, cut them apart, and give them to a friend.  All of us know people who could gain real benefit from this and we need your help getting the word out.  This is terrific information for anyone regardless of age and/or level of debt. (Sorry we were unable to attach this due to difficulties in the blog.)

We have two remaining Preview opportunities to offer.  (1) In between

worship services this coming Sunday August 1 we will offer an Inquiry Session in Fellowship Hall.  Come in, grab a cup of coffee and a donut, and learn what this is all about. (2) Wednesday August 4 at 6:00 PM we will have a Potluck Inquiry Session in Fellowship Hall.  Bring your own table service and a dish to share.  Drinks will be furnished.

In both of the above-mentioned Inquiry Sessions we will show the highly entertaining and informative Preview video featuring the incredible Dave Ramsey and we will answer all your questions.  There is ABSOLUTELY no obligation incurred by attending an Inquiry Session.

If you wish further information please call the church office at 925-0885.  We will do our best to assist you.

                                                                         Sincerely in Christ,

                                                                             Dale Williams
